I hate the direction Windows 10 is going. Uninstalling bloatware, spyware and unwanted apps had to be done after few months of use by inexperienced user not after fresh install. The amount of registry edits, new rules to local group policies and number of packages removed via PowerShell I do is staggering. All this just to make sure Windows 10 is unable to fck itself up by installing additional data collecting "features" added via "security" update.

I lost 12 games because i went on deployment as the platform went out of business. I came back 7 months later, setup my computer a month after that, and found out i had to rebuy everything. Switched to steam even though at the time they were more expensive - because they were the most stable platform for the games i was wanting to play. This was years ago... well before steam was the go-to obviously.

To add on to the Canadian housing market thing: The same exact thing is happening in the Netherlands. We're technically overpopulated, but we're just not building enough houses as over 68% of our buildable area is agricultural. The interest on your bank account is now literally NEGATIVE, meaning that everyone who can even just afford to buy a 2nd house is utterly dumb to buy one to rent out. Especially in amsterdam, over 87% of houses are owned by (foreign) investors. Meanwhile, I have to pay $1000 a month in rent, but banks won't give me a mortgage with a payment rate of $400.

While the wording of the base camp thing might be unsettling and it doesn't seem like probably a pleasant place to work (I know nothing about the company), the sentiment still rings true to me. Outrage culture and progressive ideology has hit IT pretty hard and made it a political minefield. And so in general, I think it's a great move to tell people that they're there to work and should fight their political battles in their free time.

Re: Human resources. That was my profession before I got into IT. However, when I started (way back in the mid 90s), it was called "Personnel" (here, in Scotland anyway). It was a sad day when "Human Resources" became the nom-de-plume. When they started to ignore that businesses are operated by actual "people".

Apple's eco system of feature full simplicity presents a break from rhythm and convenience when having to interact with off platform users. This seems like an Apple problem to fix, don't want loyal Apple users to loose their virginity by having to use 2 apps to communicate now do we. It might lead to harmful side effects like being able to multi task thus making it easier think and talk at the same time. JK

Love the channel but you need to stick to tech a mightev been a fraction of what it cost but so was everything inflation is a thing but the average a person payed in rent was 310 in 1980 so you would have to work 100 hours at least a month the minimum wage was $3.00 its the same today big business minimum wage is usually 15 now and the average went is $1500 so same amount of hours worked to pay rent 100

I love how linus rants on about the shitty hongcouver housing market for 40 minutes yet conveniently leaves out the fact that over half of it is owned by chinese citizens which is the core of the problem. I know that you’re a mindless SJW liberal and all but telling the truth doesn’t make you racist.

@大根 HAHAHA... Not even close. The real estate market is horribly broken and the agents don't give a shit as long as they make a commission. The problem is selling property to non-canadian citizens. If that never took place there would be around 60% more property for people that were actually born in canada. What a concept, huh? I don't even want to know how ridiculous property taxes in hongcouver are. The last thing the government needs to do is steal more money from the working class. What needs to occur is strict regulation where canadian citizenship has to be proven as part of the home buying qualification process and all of those that aren't should be forced to sell at the same market price of what they originally paid. Future agents that do not follow such rules would also be jailed for involvement in fraud. Super simple solution. International investment should not occur at the expense of actual citizens.
大根
大根 10 days ago
youre just scapegoating the chinese, when the actual problems are nimbyism, strict single family zoning, low property taxes on single family homes where densification is overdue, and a system that encourages speculation, by canadians and chinese alike. Saying the chinese are the problem is not a solution.

The most common anti-android criticism I see/hear is about how not having an iPhone implies you're either poor or cheap. I don't agree whatsoever but that's my takeaway from iPhone users when they talk shit about Android users. The whole war between the users is incredibly dumb. None of us are getting paid to be cheerleaders for out respected devices in fact we pay them. I will never upsell a product solely based on what side of the fence it's on. Smartphone users aren't cut from the same cloth.

I do not agree with such a thing sory !!! no and daia pc sources must be cheap from 15 euros for 500w entry and up 80 broz ... especially cune does not have all the infrastructure of tha electriciti in tha 80 % on very stable and secure nuclear power for 50 years per reactor !! . tha intel disaster socket point no it is not cool because ... because in 10 years they changed the socket of ... why he didn't do anything with it ... it is not cool because !! at oll total orevr distruction of maderbords ... it will have a lot of garbage to collect ... a near future !! yes and if you have problems with the net online blame the monkey on the internet ... it can be from windows but especially from 3 patry entetis !! pay to make trouble .. probably organized criminal groups . that doesn't mean Microsoft most stop working on it !!! maybe they solve them !!! bill gate no longer works since windows 7 ther !! so yea ... The more money given to Universities, the more money they will use without lowering the cost of our education. And most of the time, it's not education, just a waste of time and a shiny piece of paper. If you are worried about who will push the economy forward to pay for our healthcare/retirement needs, then make only STEM fields free, and charge for everything else. Something tells me you'd be against it, please correct this if I'm wrong.

What Linus is referring to, "the human brain doesn't see in FPS" is a very furious debate right now in visual neuroscience. There are many (Rufin VanRullen is a big proponent) who argue that we DO have frames of visual perception. They have demonostrated alongside other authors (Jason Samaha is a nice one to read), that visual system does have seem to do somethings like search for information in a "frame-like" manner.

If student loans didn't exist school would be significantly cheaper. The Government virtually guarantees student loans which means the colleges are guaranteed the money. The college can now charge whatever they want and have the money guaranteed to them. The college problem has nothing to do with any generation, but rather an exploitable system because every Government on the planet is stupid and innately anti-citizen.

You lost me at the whole college debt thing. College is not required for 50% of jobs in the western world. People just do not want to work in those jobs. If you want to make great money and never worry about debt, go to a trade school or take an apprenticeship program for one of those fields. You will never be wanting for the rest of your life. The simple idea that a college degree is required for any work nowadays is simply opposite of all data and fact.

Linus you don't even begin to realise how COVID actually impacted housing here in switzerland. Basically, it's the canton (state) that handles auctions if you don't pay bills. I kid you not, there are beautiful houses on auction now because foreigners don't want to pay their swiss holiday house and taxes anymore, since they can't go there. The biggest problem in housing today is a small group buying multiple houses thanks to banks incentives. Once a first house is earned in morgage, you basically get free money with today's system. Money simply brings money...

One of the worst things, to me, is that the government has been making more money off of condo developers pushing up the prices of condos. If they allowed homeowners to compete head to head and pay the same property taxes, condos would be way cheaper. So not only do they endorse spending precarious amount of money on houses to bail out boomers, they also punish people who want to live space-efficiently in cities (renting/condo owning). I can't wait for a crash too.

Linus, you're saying that taxes from the working class, should pay for student loans racked up by college grads (who are middle to upper class), who are qualified for higher paying jobs. That is literally a redistribution of funds from the bottom up. Yes some lower class kids go to college, but the majority of those are on scholarships. House prices are skyrocketing but so are costs of everything else. Thank Trudeau and his irresponsible, off the scale spending. Most of which does absolutely nothing positive for the population in the long term. Welcome to over spending and forced inflation, which is only going to get worse the more they spend and print.

When paid to do a job, being an activist is is generally not part of the job. It has become so toxic and has no place is the workspace. I agree 100% with them. Have 1/3 leave tells you how toxic that was. I bet the work environment will be better for it. Coinbase did something like that a while ago.

Sorry, my house has doubled in value in the 8 years I've lived here. This is still an investment, not just a place to live.

Student loan forgiveness is like a Band-Aid on your severed head. You need to prevent the debt from happening in the first place

You can't just forgive student loan debt. That'd be incredibly expensive. Just change the interest rates, and make it harder to get into uni so that degrees will get more value so that they're less necessary to get certain jobs, and make it much easier to get a job if you have a degree. Then make all new loans cheaper and have 0% interest that you have to pay off only if and when you earn above a certain minimum amount, or until you reach the age of 50 years old, whichever comes first.
